What determines the value of my AC?

A 2-ton AC has noticeably longer copper coils and a bigger compressor than a 1-ton unit, so it carries a higher indicative rate. Both split and window ACs are priced the same way, and all brands are welcome at the same rate.

Accepted Answer

Yes. A gas-leaked, non-cooling, or physically damaged AC is still accepted - the copper coils and compressor that make up most of an AC's scrap value are intact regardless of whether the unit still cools. Don't try to release the gas or open the compressor yourself; leave that to the agent.

What's inside an AC that makes it valuable as scrap?

The copper coils in both the indoor and outdoor units, and the compressor's copper winding, carry the bulk of an AC's scrap value - copper is one of the higher-value metals we buy. The aluminium fins, sheet-metal casing, and compressor housing add secondary value on top of that.

As with a refrigerator, the refrigerant gas is recovered safely first and never released into the air. The unit is then opened up to separate the copper coils and compressor from the aluminium fins and outer casing, and each material is routed to the recycler that can actually use it, rather than scrapped as mixed metal.

Switch it off and unplug it before your pickup slot. If it's a split AC, leave the indoor and outdoor units connected as they are - the agent disconnects and removes both. There's no need to drain the gas or dismantle anything yourself.

At pickup, it's weighed and inspected on a calibrated digital scale at your doorstep, in front of you, and the agent shares the final amount based on its actual condition. You approve it with a one-time Pickup Confirmation Code sent to your phone - nothing is final until you share that code. If you don't agree with the amount, the pickup is simply cancelled at no cost, and your AC stays with you.
