How to Sell Old Batteries for Scrap in Chennai: Car, Inverter & UPS
A battery that's stopped holding charge - car, inverter, UPS, or the one inside an old laptop - still has real scrap value, and shouldn't just sit in a cupboard or go out with the regular garbage. Here's what to know before you sell one.
Why batteries need separate handling
Lead-acid batteries - the kind in cars, inverters and UPS units - contain lead and sulphuric acid, both hazardous if they leach into soil or groundwater when discarded informally. Lithium-ion batteries, found in laptops, phones and EVs, carry their own risk - physical damage or a short circuit can cause them to overheat. What battery types QwikScrap buys
Car batteries, inverter batteries and UPS batteries - all common lead-acid types - are accepted, along with lithium-ion batteries from phones, laptops and electric vehicles. Dry-cell and button-cell batteries (the small ones from remotes, torches and toys) are accepted too, priced by weight rather than individually since they're usually sold in bulk. A battery doesn't need to work to be eligible
You don't need a battery to hold a full charge, or even to have any charge left, for it to be worth selling - old, weak and non-functional batteries are all accepted. The one thing to be careful of: if a battery is visibly leaking, swollen, or physically damaged, don't try to open, puncture, or force it apart yourself. Keep it upright, away from heat, and just mention its condition when you book - the agent handles it safely from there.
How pricing and pickup work
Lithium-ion and dry-cell batteries are priced per kilogram and weighed at your doorstep, in front of you. Car, inverter and UPS batteries are priced per unit instead, since their value depends more on type and capacity than raw weight. Either way, you're paid the moment your battery is confirmed - cash or UPI, no waiting. Not sure which category your battery falls under?
