How Scrap Rates Are Calculated in Tamil Nadu

What's the rate today? is the first question every scrap seller asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on more than most people expect. Here's what actually moves the number.

Material type is the biggest factor

Every category of scrap - metals, e-waste, paper, plastics, batteries - trades at a different price because each one is processed differently and recovers a different amount of raw material. Within metals alone, copper is worth far more per kilo than steel, because copper is scarcer and more energy-intensive to mine fresh. This is why a single "scrap rate" for a whole household pickup doesn't exist - your final payout is really a sum of several different rates, one per item.

Purity and condition change the rate within a category

Not all copper is priced the same. Clean, unmixed copper wire fetches more than copper still attached to insulation or brass fittings, because the buyer has to spend extra effort separating it before it can be sold on. The same logic applies across categories: a fridge with its compressor intact is worth more than one that's been stripped, and paper free of lamination or heavy printing is worth more than glossy magazine stock. This is also why two households with what looks like "the same" scrap can get different final numbers.

Weight is measured in front of you, not estimated

Rates are quoted per kilogram, so the second half of the equation is simply how much you have. QwikScrap agents carry a calibrated digital scale and weigh every item at your doorstep, in front of you, before confirming a number - nothing is estimated by eye or settled after the fact. What you see on the scale is what you're paid for.

Market prices move, so rates aren't fixed

Scrap metal and paper prices track global commodity markets, which shift week to week. A rate that was accurate last month may not hold today. Rather than publish a number here that goes stale, QwikScrap keeps live, current rates on the scrap rates page - that's the number that applies on the day your agent arrives.
